Need a new hobby

Posted by mei | Posted in Thoughts, Uncategorized | Posted on 06-04-2011

When I was a university student, most of my friends joined the equestrian club and invited me to join along. At first I was really excited, but when I found out that the membership fee was costly, I lost interest since as a student I havn’t got extra funds.

Now that I am working and earning enough money, I was thinking of joining riding again.

When I was surfing the net, I came across horse and pony insurance. Then I thought I could join the riding club. So I researched on horse insurance and got a quote for horse insurance before I get serious about my new found interest.

Do you enjoy riding??

I am so forgetful

Knowing that I can get cheap supplements from my workplace, my aunt has asked me to buy a few months supply of glucosamine for her. But guess what? I totally forgot about it until I was on the plane.

My aunt has been suffering from arthritis for many years, and has been taking glucosamine daily, however because of the cheaper prices in UK, so she often gets it through me.

Since I work in a pharmacy, it has benefited me in many ways especially when I need to buy medicines or supplements for my family and friends. Plus, I am able to get 22.5% of staff discount for any Boots items.

Pets

Posted by mei | Posted in Random, Thoughts | Posted on 01-04-2011

You know I just realized that many people in Torquay have dogs. Almost everyone I talk to tell me about their dogs. Some even treat them like their children! Where I come from, it’s rare. Or at least it’s unheard of in my family. Well, that’s because we don’t own any dogs or fluffy pets.

I was talking to a customer the other day and she was complaining about pet insurance issues for her new dog. She didn’t think it was necessary until the guy at the pet store explained the importance of obtaining a dog insurance.

I seriously considered getting a dog until I found out dog insurance is a concern. Dogs get the same diseases like we humans do. Things like diabetes, cancer and glaucoma. Having to insure myself and my pet as well is something I have to think twice!

Any bonus this year??

bonus

Hmm, well, it is almost the time of  the year again, where people get letters to tell them of any promotion, pay rise or bonus for all the hard work you have put in for year 2010 april to 2011 april. So have you had yours yet??

Well, I will be having my personal and development contract review coming friday, and my line manager will be reviewing my performance over the last 6 months, to see if Ihave met all the goals we set in November 2010, to qualify for a bonus! If I do get one, then I can start looking into things like motorhome insurance, a new bed, a new 32 inch TV, and a driving license in the UK! Yes all these requires a lot of money eh!

I can’t wait to find out, but I have a bad feeling I havn’t done enough to deserve a reward this year. Especially with the 10 MUR target a week, I dont think I will be getting a bonus, even if I do qualify for one, it may be a tiny one. Anyhow, I still look forward to finding out. How about you???

Tsunami in Japan made me change my mind

Posted by mei | Posted in On a serious note, Thoughts | Posted on 10-03-2011

Due to the recent tsunami in Japan, I don’t think I will be going to the beach for a while now. Eventhough Malaysia isn’t affected, but I remember 2004 Tsunami in Indonesia affected some parts of Malaysia ie. Penang Island, and that has made me shun beaches since then.

This time around visiting home in 2 weeks time, I actually planned to visit the Thai islands and Sabah, I guess I won’t be having that thought anymore, I will probably go for food hunting in the nearby places instead, like malacca, penang, singapore etc.

I have several friends in Japan, most of them are not affected by the calamity, but one of them did experience the earthquake aftershock every 20 minutes. Apparently when he got home, he found his TV, computer, and other bulky stuff all fallen off the shelf. It must be really scary for the japanese.

Following the news about japanese towns being washed away, nuclear leaks, death tolls reaching 1300, thousands still out there unaccounted for, hundreds of thousands people needing shelter really scares me a lot. It feels like tsunami is happening very frequently. Everyone has been talking about the world coming to an end, and about the movie 2012 becoming a reality. Do you believe that?

Need a step stool for my flat

Posted by mei | Posted in On a serious note, Random, Raves and Rants, Thoughts | Posted on 04-03-2011

So, when you are living on your own, it is important you know the basics to fixing all the little things in your flat, ie the toilet flush, the light bulbs, changing fuse when an electrical circuit trips etc. But the most important thing is you must have a ladder or at least have some sort of metal step stools.

I have always found it a problem when it comes to household problems, sad to say, I havn’t got the basic common sense or touch to fix all these little issues in my flat. So I normally ring my renting agent to get someone in to fix them for me. However, the landlord would only pay for it once, and wouldn’t want to fund them anymore, as they are little issues, but sending people over would costs a lot of money, unless I pay it myself.

Sometimes I want to try and change the light bulb myself, only to find I havn’t got a ladder, or a step stool, not even a chair to get me up to  my lights!! I think I really should get one!!

Going home soon!!

Posted by mei | Posted in Thoughts, my life updates | Posted on 26-02-2011

I will be going home end of march till mid april. Yay. I am so happy, I finally have new annual holidays from April onwards. This time I am really excited, because I can go home to view the 2 condominium that I invested in!! I only saw pictures that my mom took! It will be nice to see the showhouse for myself what I have actually purchased! Lol.

Bank Negara in Malaysia has set a restriction for loan borrower for the 3rd home you buy, so I can’t buy anymore properties for the mean time, as they would only offer up to 70% of loan now, I guess I will have to look into other investments like us coins maybe. Do you invest on golds and coins? Do share your views.

Batchelor’s cup a soup

Normally I would buy the batchelor’s can soup, but this time I thought I’d try the cup a soup sachets, because you just need to add boiling water to it, so easy, it saves a lot of work when you are really hungry, and I also bring this to work, have it with bread. Cheap and nice.

However, I have to admit the can soup is tastier, so If I am having pasta, I would prefer to use the condensed can soup, not the sachets.

What to get for a friend’s birthday?

Presents

One of my good friend’s birthday will be coming up and I am cracking my brains to come up with a useful yet thoughtful gift. Any suggestions??

I was thinking of looking at some iphone 3gs cases, but it is so hard to find the ideal design and colour! Or should I get her a clutch bag for going out since she likes going out. How about the new iphone 5?? That would costs me a bomb!! Or LV wallet? They all sound like my dream list for myself!! Lol.

When I buy gifts for my good friends, I tend to think of things I would like, but maybe I should focus on what they like more?? Getting gifts for people are never easy. You want to get something nice, but there are so many colours, design, ideas etc. What if they dont like it? I know some people like to buy vouchers or ask their birthday friends to choose, but really I think that isn’t ideal.

Surprises and getting to open presents that are wrapped up are still the best. What are your views when it comes to buying presents for friends or close ones?

Wedding insurance

Posted by mei | Posted in On a serious note, Thoughts, To share | Posted on 10-02-2011

We all know that nowadays everything requires insurance. You have got home insurance that protects your home if you encounter unfortunate events ie. flood, fire, criminal convictions, damage due to renovations etc. Then there is life insurance to help protect your dependants if you die, there are also car insurance, gadgets insurance to protect your Ipad, Iphone, Laptops, and all your valuables etc.

How about Wedding insurance?? Frankly speaking, I have no idea about this until today, when I was helping a friend to get a quote for insurance for wedding in UK. It really is good to know, because then if I get married in the future, I’d know what to do instead of having to go through it all from scratch.

Apparently you can choose a wedding insurance that covers the UK weddings, overseas weddings or even Civil Partnerships. They come in a choice of set package or you can even have it taylor made to your preference. The wedding insurance can be as cheap as £15.33, but of course, if you want your wedding to be fully covered, you will have to be ready to fock out a larger sum. At the moment, because is it valentines period, many insurance companies are offering discounts, so it would be good to look out for them, as you may get some bargains.

These wedding insurance can be taylor made to cover for supplier deposits, public liability, wedding attire, rings and also for cancellation and rearrangements, depending on what the couple’s needs are.
