We finally saw the aurora borealis that we dreamed of seeing!!
It was one of the things I wanted to see all my life, and I am lucky enough to have seen it at the age of 25! Woohoo. So what is aurora borealis??
According to Wikipedia ‘ It is the natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere’
When we arrived in Iceland, it was raining for the first few days, and we thought, ok, you gotta be really lucky to see the northern lights. In fact, the sky has gotta be clear, no clouds, no rain, right month, right place, and the right time! And on our 4th day, we sense hope. There was no rain, clouds were clear, it was cold enough, and so we booked on the tour!
The bus drove us to the outskirts of iceland, an hour away from city centre, to a pitched black, flat land, and we waited patiently. At 10pm, we saw the lights slowly coming out in the sky, dissapearing, and reappearing. There is a reason why they also call it the dancing lights, because the shapes of the lights changes every few seconds.
It is the most beautiful natural phenomena Iv ever seen!!
I’v always liked country music, and Carrie Underwood is one of my favourite country singers.
I came accross one of her videos on facebook the other day, and was blown away. She received standing ovation from the crowd which were mainly celebrities when she belched out How Great Thou Art on stage with Vince Gill.
This video is a must watch, even if you are not christian or holy person, just listen to her singing, it is just pitched perfect, and very touching.
Did you take a 2 minute moment of silence at 11 am this morning to honour the war dead? Or you have no idea whatsoever what I am talking about?
Well today is Armistice Day, it falls on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month. What is the reason behind this? Everyone across the nation would have observed a 2 minute silent moment at 11am as a remembrance of those who died in the first world war. This date was chosen to mark the end of world war 1.
If you just found out about this, don’t worry. Make sure you remember it next year, same time same day same month! It was really cool when I was working in the pharmacy today, someone was at the counter and others were shopping, but we put up a notice and gestured to the customers to be silent, and everyone just stood still for 2 minutes
I iust spoke to my family over the phone. Apparently my dad’s car audio receiver is not working again. When I went back home few months ago, driving my dad’s car was a pain. I have always liked to have music on when I am on the road, but it seems like even after we have fixed it many times, it gets spoiled again. I guess it is time to replace the old one. I think I can get it for my dad’s birthday, since his birthday is 2 weeks from now
I can also use my voice recorder to sing him a birthday song and send him my wishes across the globe. Wouldn’t that be a great idea? I am sure he would be so surprised! Good thing my dad doesn’t read my blog, or else it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore!
Do you think a car audio receiverwould make a good gift or is it too cheap for a dad’s birthday? It is the thought that matters isn’t it? I will give a good think about it. Any other ideas what I can get for my dad’s birthday? I prefer getting practical gifts.
Today was my 2nd day back to work, also my 1st time working with addicts. Such an overwhelming day! I can feel the adrenaline rush, literally! Those who know me, would know I have never had training for MDA (substance misuser)services before. I was so thankful for the regular pharmacist there, who prepared the whole week’s methadone in advance. I only had 1 coming for collection, and 4 supervised+collect today. The only thing I keep reminding myself is to fill in the back of the prescription, the CD (control drug) register, and the monitoring sheet. Because it was my 1st time, I had another staff going into the consultation room with me during supervision.
Apart from that, it was all quite good. The staff in this store really knows how to enjoy!! At 10am sharp, they started taking orders for sandwiches! After sandwiches, it was chocolates and peanuts and they have ribena too! my oh my. If only all branches I go to do that!
It’s a friday! My favourite day, because its the last day before weekend. But for me, it is the start of work again. The good thing was I start off in my ex-training store, just 5 minutes walk away, and of course farmiliar faces, lots of cakes and tea at work – relaxed!! Overall my 1st day back at work went by smoothly, thank god I havn’t forgotten too much >.< Today was also the day I did my 1st MUR(medicines use review) with a patient! Woohoo.. an asthmatic patient.
So, tomorrow will be an entirely new chapter of my life, that is the start of my journey of taking on the role of a pharmacist. Am I ready? The title of my post above says it all. I am not. After 4 years of University, 1 year of training, you’d think oh 5 years of studying and you are not ready, nonsense! But it is true, no one will ever be ready at the beginning, and now Im in a transition state of becoming a pharmacist from a pre-reg student. Anything that involves ‘changes’ or ‘new’ are always difficult. People are always more comfortable staying where they were, thus shun changes and new things. That is human nature. Don’t you agree?
But how do we cope and adapt to these changes? That is what I am experiencing at the moment and learning to deal with it. I am totally in a denial state. Sitting on my bed with my laptop on my lap… trying to look for inspiring music to lift up my spirits.. Any suggestions?? I was watching glee yesterday, so Im listening to ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ at the moment.. But I don’t think it is helping.. I have been watching Glee, then the movie ‘Losers’, then took naps, so that I can get my mind off this whole pharmacist thing.
Most of the pre-regs’ including myself are still waiting for our registration number, without it we can’t practice, so we have to constantly go on the RPSGB website to check if our names been added on to the list.. and me being in denial, Im hoping that there will be a delay, so I will have another 1 or 2 days to get myself ready.
I am a suc*** at dealing with changes. Before this, I was caught up in a personal problem, I was so down and wanted to stay at where I was, but situation pushed me to move on, and in the process, talking to people, writing down the problems, and Spending money helped. All of these helped to make me feel better and move on, but I did regret one thing. I spent too much, especially on unnecessary things. Well, I had no way out, and shopping and spending money kept me going, and that is what I had to do. So I wish there were other ways that doesn’t involve money. Lol. Any suggestions??
Feel free to share how you deal with changes, or any tips you can give

Believe in the pot of gold(It’s the greatest)
At the end of the rainbow(Can you feel it)
And faith was right there(It’s the greatest)
To pull me through, yeah(Can you feel it)
Used to be locked doors(It’s the greatest)
Now I can just walk on through(Can you feel it)
I’m that star up in the sky
I’m that mountain peak up hiiigh
Hey, I made it
I’m the world’s greatest
And I’m that little bit of hope
When my back’s against the rooopes
I can feel it
I’m the world’s greatest
If it’s a broken part, replace it
If it’s a broken arm then brace it
If it’s a broken heart then face it
And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
In the start of the song, someone over the phone tells a story about how they’ve lost everything in an apartment fire, and is completely lost. Jason, in the song is trying to help them get through this difficult time of their life, and at the end of the song, another phone call tells that they have managed to pull through and feels grateful for Jason’s help. The meaning of the song is along the same lines of detachment – from any sort of relationship problems, losing someone, or just about any life crisis one is dealing with.
I love the lyrics of the song, I think it is beautifully written, the meaning of the song definitely applies to most us at some point of our lives. I think this is a great song for those who are trying to move on from a broken relationship, This is my favourite part – ‘hold your own, know your name’ – is a reminder for one to appreciate and love yourself, put yourself first before others, don’t try to be someone you’re not for someone else. So basically, don’t let a relationship become everything/main thing in your life, because when it is over, you are left with nothing, but yourself.

A friend recommended one of Miley Cyrus songs to me called ‘the climb’. I found the song really comforting, and her voice is not bad. Another new found talent by me I thought I’d share with you the clip I found on You tube.
The climb was actually the soundtrack of the movie Hannah Montana 2009, Miley Cyrus was the main actress in the movie, and also the singer for the soundtrack. The song is written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe and was released on March 5, 2009 as the lead single of the film’s soundtrack by Walt Disney Records. The lyrics of the song describes life as a difficult but rewarding journey. It is a country pop ballad, and was her first solo released to country radio.
Cyrus released her second album in July 2008, called ‘Breakout‘. She said the album was inspired by the things that was going on in her life in the past year. She co-wrote 8 out of 12 songs on the album. For Cyrus, songwriting is what she really wanted to do in her life. The album topped the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with a first week sales of about 371,000 copies.
