Bought your valentines day gift yet?

Posted by mei | Posted in Events | Posted on 21-01-2012

Valentines day is around the corner. Have you bought your lover a gift yet?

I think the best gifts are personalised gifts, plus a bouquet of flowers and a plush toy saying ‘I love you’, I know it is classic, but every girls like it!!

I was surfing the net, then came across this website www.flowercoupon.com/, the deals are pretty reasonable. You might want to check it out, and plan the special occasion in advance, instead of being last minute!

Packed schedule

Posted by mei | Posted in Events, my life updates | Posted on 30-08-2011

So my holiday back home started off really boring and slow, during the first week, the only thing I did was looking for stainless undermount sink with my parents. But after the 2nd week, my schedule was just packed everyday! I think it is good to be occupied rather than being bored and restless at home.

So basically I have been eating and playing for the past few weeks, and meeting lots of new friends, and been exposed to different businesses and investment opportunities.

I think overall, this 1 month holiday was a great and enjoyable one!

Fried New Year Cake

Do you have the tradition of having Chinese new year cake ‘lin ko’ during cny?? I find it really strange, when I was in Malaysia, I never used to eat Lin ko during cny, but ever since I came over to England, I have it every year! It is a must, I normally travel to Bristol or London to get a big box, then store it in the freezer, and just fry it with eggs and have it as a snack!

It is yumm. Do you like Lin Ko?

CNY in London China Town

This is the first time I spent Chinese New Year in London China Town! It was such a great experience despite the crazy crowd!! It was worse than boxing day shopping in london! Almost as bad as New Year’s eve in London Eye. So you can imagine how crazy the crowd was.

Chinese New Year celebration in China Town was massive, there were lion dance, food stalls, stage performances, large TV screen, CNY Icons, Wishing Tree, that spans the entire area from China Town in Leicester Square to Trafalgar Square.

There were chinese leaves and red packet hanging on the door of each chinese store in China Town, the ‘Lion’ goes from one store to the next to collect its’ red packet, wherever there was a lion dance, the crowd echoed.

How did you celebrate chinese new year??

Happy Chinese New Year !!

Happy chinese new year to all. Hope everyone have a wonderful year of wealth, health and happiness this year.

This chinese new year is not a special one, in fact this is my 6th year of not being home celebrating chinese new year with my family and friends. So, this really is just another day for me. Christmas was more of a big thing than CNY, at least I had Roast Turkey with my friends during xmas!! Lol.

I didn’t realised it was cny already, I didn’t plan in advance to have extra time off, to travel to my friends’ for a reunion dinner, and most of them are back home in Hong Kong. Having said that, I will be heading to London for the weekend, so hopefully I will have my share of cny celebration there! Whee..

Happy Rabbit New Year to everyone! Have a nice time with your family and love ones. Make sure you eat lots!!

Portobello Market

Well this market is situated in Nottinghill. Did you watch Nottinghill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts?? If you liked the show you must pay a visit to Nottinghill!! The houses there looked colourful and very pretty. However I didn’t have much chance to walk around nottinghill, as I only visited the market.

This is a very famous market that specialises in antiques. There are uncountable stalls and even proper shops selling old antique cameras, collectibles, stamps, clocks, and even sewing machines! It is another market I found rather interesting after Camden Market. It did remind me of ‘Pasar Malam’ (night market back home in Malaysia) as the street is closed for visitors on foot only, and all along the street on both left and right side, there will be shops and stalls selling all these antiques, and towards the end of the market, there are plenty of food stalls.

Even if you don’t collect antiques, like me, it is still worth visiting

Christmas eve hot pot

Posted by mei | Posted in Events, Food, my life updates | Posted on 31-12-2010

This year, I celebrated Christmas with my 2 other buddies from University. On 24th I had to work till 6pm, so by the time I travelled to Cornwall, it was already 8.30pm. We waited for another friend to arrive, then started our long waited hot pot meal at 10pm!!

Even though we had a late meal, it was still yum and lots of fun. I have been craving for Chinese meat balls, Chinese mushrooms, Japanese tofu, Chinese hotpot sliced beef for such a long time! Living abroad especially during winter season, my friends and I crave for hot pot all the time. How about you?? Do you have these cravings?

Winter Solstice festival

Posted by mei | Posted in Events, Food, Just For Fun, Random, Thoughts, To share | Posted on 23-12-2010

I’ve only just realised its winter solstice festival today after noticing everyone’s status on facebook. So I too went to make myself some Tong Yuen (Chinese dessert made of rice flour) too! Previously I bought some black sesame tong yuen when my friend was still around; I had 1 more packet in the freezer, which came in handy today!!

Tong Yuen pictures on facebook really made me crave for it. I didn’t have any ginger though, so the taste was not great, but still good enough to satisfy my cravings! Have you had your tong yuen??

Such a busy but an amazing week

Posted by mei | Posted in Events, Life as a pharmacist, Random | Posted on 04-12-2010

I have been so busy, I hardly have time to update my blog here. So what have I been up to??

Starting last Tuesday, I will be working 12 days straight without rest. Why?? Because I have got such long break during christmas 25th-28th Dec, so I thought I’d try to make it up for the loss later. Today is my 6th day of work, only half way through.. Thank god, tomorrow is an easy day, because I will be working 5 minutes away from home, Yea that means I can sleep in a little longer. (That is VERY important to me)

Eventhough I have been working and working.. I am glad I managed to take some time after work to meet up with a bunch of wonderful friends from uni who came over to Torquay to visit me, for a dinner together at an Italian Restaurant- Biancos. Then we went for bowling, then back to my place for the famous chinese card game Chor Dai Tee.. we all stayed up till about 4am, and guess what?? I still have to work the next day (Sunday!)..

Good thing stores open from 10am to 4pm only on sundays, so after work, I met up with my friends for dinner before they left for Bristol, PLymouth, Cornwall. And here I am, back home early, time to relax abit before I head to bed for work again! We had italian meal again, at Prezzo, which is way better than Biancos.. Check out my food blog for more food updates :)

Christmas markets

Posted by mei | Posted in Events, Just For Fun, my life updates | Posted on 22-11-2010

Hmm.. christmas is coming soon. Most parts of the country has put up their decorations, christmas lightings are turned on.. There will be christmas markets all over the cities and towns from end of November onwards.

DEU BY CHRISTKINDLESMARKT NUERNBERG

It is very rare I get 3 days off back to back from27-29th November. But I am thinking of a nice place to visit. Where should I go? London would be a good choice, as there will be plenty of Christmas markets and great christmas displays. I was also considering Bath, as it is nearer, that is also the place I did my studies for 4 years. I havnt gone back to Bath since I left a year and a half ago.
