What a day! Pheww..

Posted by mei | Posted in my life updates, Raves and Rants | Posted on 25-01-2011

It was a mixture of good and bad day for me yesterday..

I had a last minute notice that I have to attend the Aspire Training day in Taunton. It was great, that means I didn’t have to go to work! Then I learnt something new at the training day which was a plus point, and the best bit is our training ended early at 1.30pm!!

It was raining out there.. but we decided to go to Clark’s village for more shopping before the final sales end..  (I started having headache since training started) ..

The bad part of the day started when we got to the railway station at Yeovil! We missed our train by 2 minutes, and had to wait another hour. Then, I also left my purse in my friend’s bag, and she has driven home (she dont live near at all, she was driving about an hour to get home) … thank god i had my debit card on me and £20 notes!  So I had to buy another ticket, that costs me £20, without a rail card (in my purse).. Then when I got to Newton Abbot, there is another hour wait! Oh my god. My head was already killing me, guess what? I took the taxi home and paid another £13!!

What a day ei!

I managed to get home at 9.20pm, took some painkiller, went straight to bed, then had a good night sleep. Woke up at 5am this morning.. headache is gone! and it is my day off today! Yay..

As you can see it has been snowing pretty badly everywhere in England during Christmas period. These are the left over snow that became ice. The snow in some parts of the country still hasn’t completely melted yet, don’t you just love the beautiful snow?

How to produce more breast milk?

Posted by mei | Posted in Health, Life as a pharmacist, Pharmacy queries, To share | Posted on 18-01-2011

Today, I had a breastfeeding mom coming in to pick my brains on how to product more breast milk. I was stunned for a moment, as I have not encountered such a question in the past, and obviously I am not a mother yet, I have no clue. So, I could only be honest telling her I don’t know much about it, but I could look it up and give her a ring back. So here I am, spending some time to do some reading on this.

Basically low production of breast milk can be caused by various reasons, which include previous breast surgery, combined contraceptive pills, stress, being ill, or only allowing your baby to nurse for short time can also cause reduction in breast milk.

In order to increase breast milk production, breast feeding mom has to make sure all breast milk are used up during each feeding, if not then you will need to use a pump to get rid of the remaining milk, this will help to trigger the body to produce more milk. Mother getting enough nutrition is also vital. Mother should also allow feeding whenever baby wants to feed, this will help let the body know that it needs to make more milk. Some other measures to help with the production of milk include herbal and prescription medications, which I will spend more time on next time. Have you got any other tips to add?? Feel free to suggest.

Portobello Market

Well this market is situated in Nottinghill. Did you watch Nottinghill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts?? If you liked the show you must pay a visit to Nottinghill!! The houses there looked colourful and very pretty. However I didn’t have much chance to walk around nottinghill, as I only visited the market.

This is a very famous market that specialises in antiques. There are uncountable stalls and even proper shops selling old antique cameras, collectibles, stamps, clocks, and even sewing machines! It is another market I found rather interesting after Camden Market. It did remind me of ‘Pasar Malam’ (night market back home in Malaysia) as the street is closed for visitors on foot only, and all along the street on both left and right side, there will be shops and stalls selling all these antiques, and towards the end of the market, there are plenty of food stalls.

Even if you don’t collect antiques, like me, it is still worth visiting

Acne problems

Posted by mei | Posted in Health, my life updates, Pharmacy queries, To share | Posted on 17-01-2011

Recently, I have had several queries on acne skin care products in the pharmacy. I reckon it is due to the over indulgence in chocolates during Christmas period. As I did get more spots recently due to the fried food, snacks and chocolates I had over Christmas and new year.

What remedy do you use for acne and spots?? Normally I would recommend any products with benzoyl peroxide like oxy 10 or panoxyl, however I realised these products causes over drying of the skin on application, and after several use, they are not as effective anymore. So I for one like to use different products after a few weeks to get the maximum effect. Tea trea oil is another great stuff for spots. What do you think?

Camden Market @ London

Posted by mei | Posted in Food, Just For Fun, my life updates, Travelling | Posted on 17-01-2011

I am so ashamed to admit that I have never been to the world’s famous market in London – Camden Market after so many years being in England. Since my friend lived in Camden, it was an opportunity to make a visit! And I finally did!

The market is huge, it consists of several sub-markets, and each of the design is special. I was most impressed with The Stables, the largest section of Camden market. This market is second to none. This is a very unique market, where you will find yourself shopping amidst statue of horses throughout Stables Market.  Well, the market is built in the former midland railway stables and horse hospital which served the horses pulling barges along the canal, thus explains the many statues of horses in the market.

These markets sell clothes, crafts, fast food, furniture, decorative goods, collectibles, and other things, but mainly gothic and cybergothic  clothing. They do have a mixture of temporary stalls and fixed stalls, so some stalls only trade on certain days. Weekends would be the best days to visit Camden markets as most stalls will be opened. However, do not repeat my mistake, I went there at 10am on Sunday, many stalls were barely opened, so I suggest you go after 12pm, where there will be more stalls and crowd.

Camden Town is known for its gothic culture, so don’t be shock if you see all the gothic and hippie hair styles, tattoos, piercing, and dressing styles when you are walking down the streets there.

This is a definite must visit if you come to England! You’d be thrilled.

Do you eat when you are stressed?

Posted by mei | Posted in Food Indulgence, Health, my life updates, Random, Raves and Rants, Thoughts | Posted on 16-01-2011

Some people skip meals when they are stressed, but some eat a lot to release stress. Which one are you? Unfortunately, I am the latter. I realised recently I have put on so much weight especially after Christmas and new year period. I just eat non-stop.

I think if I don’t start controlling my diet, I will have to start taking slimming tablets to keep my weight down! I keep eating when I am stressed and unhappy, and I do eat more than usual. This isn’t good eh, especially when I am someone who indulges in food so much, and eats more than a normal portion for a female.

Strawberries

Manage to grab a bargain from Co-Op Supermarket again! This time, it is strawberries. It is reduced to £1.35, how cheap is that? Normally strawberries are rather expensive.

You’d think, if they reduce the price means the fruit isn’t very fresh or going out of date. Yes it was expiring the next day, but the strawberry was still very red, and fresh. In fact it was very sweet too.

Get a TV or not?

Posted by mei | Posted in Raves and Rants, shopping, Thoughts | Posted on 14-01-2011

Now that christmas and new year has passed, it is time to consider getting a TV again. If you followed my blogs, you would know I have been contemplating back and forth whether to get a TV. I have spent way too much past 2 months, so I don’t know if I should get a 29inch or 22inch tv. Any suggestions? My friends think I should get a bigger TV, but I think since I am only living in a small flat, 22 inch would be good enough?

I just came across a website that sells really cheap antennas, I am considering whether I should buy it now since its on offer, just incase I really do get a TV soon, then the antenna will come in handy. Decisions making is so hard. I am such a huge TV addict, having a TV would be ideal! Money is the only problem at the moment. Perhaps I should work a few more extra shifts 1st?

Cheapest boots ever bought

Posted by mei | Posted in Just For Fun, shopping, To share | Posted on 14-01-2011

One of my friends is a big time online shopper. So one of the days after xmas, we were browsing through websites to see if we could get any bargains. Guess what we found?? Fury Boots at the cheapest rate ever!

DSC06232

Want to take a wild guess how much they cost?? Well, they are brand new, of course it wasn’t UGG, but they looked really nice in the pictures. My friends and I got overwhelmed with the price, so we had 1 pair each.

Well I know you want to know the price, it was £5!!! Isn’t it cheap??

Do you shop online??
